The by-product hydrogen from Huaxiang Chemical will provide clean energy for the development of hydrogen powered vehicles in Wuhan. On July 27th, the head of Yunmeng County government said that the county will focus on optimizing the layout of the salt chemical circular economy industrial park, improving industrial planning, perfecting safety and environmental assessments, increasing the construction of park infrastructure, comprehensively enhancing the park’s functions and carrying capacity, and using it as an important platform to promote high-quality development.
The demonstration operation scale of hydrogen powered vehicles in Wuhan will reach two to three thousand units within three years. The upcoming Hubei Gehua Huaxiang Chemical Co., Ltd. project utilizes Yunmeng’s abundant rock salt resources to produce caustic soda and chlor alkali, generating a large amount of by-products – chlorine gas and hydrogen gas. The industrial park has introduced a new project, which is a joint venture between Gehua Group and Wuhan Institute of Environmental Protection to produce hydrogen gas. The Wuhan side urgently needs our hydrogen gas, and we are accelerating the construction of factories. It is expected to be put into production within the year, “said the person in charge.
The industrial park has also introduced enterprises such as Jinji Chemical and Huaxin Organic Silicon to produce drugs and new organic silicon materials using chlorine gas. In March, Hubei Jinji Chemical Co., Ltd. held a groundbreaking ceremony. The company’s product, methylsulfonyl chloride, is a pharmaceutical intermediate made from chlorine gas, a byproduct of Huaxiang Chemical. The project covers an area of 50 acres with a total investment of 100 million yuan. After reaching production capacity, the annual output value of the enterprise can reach 120 million yuan, with a tax payment of 8 million yuan. It will provide 90 job opportunities and become another newcomer in the salt chemical industry chain of the park.
The industrial park is located in Geputan Town, with an area of 16.3 square kilometers and abundant salt resources. The park is 70 kilometers away from Wuhan, 50 kilometers away from Tianhe Airport, and 90 kilometers away from Wuhan Yangluo International Terminal. The Han Yu Railway, Wuxi High speed Railway, Han Shi Expressway, and National Highway 316 connect the park, with obvious geographical advantages and convenient transportation. The park is rich in rock salt and resources, making it an ideal location for chlor alkali industry chain projects to settle down.
Relying on Zhongyan Dongxing Yunmeng Branch, Guangyan Lantian Group, and Huaxiang Chemical Project, the park has introduced 20 chemical enterprises that use ion membrane caustic soda and by-products such as chlorine gas, hydrogen gas, and chlorinated benzene as raw materials, achieving an output value of 5 billion yuan.
In recent years, Yunmeng has invested over 100 million yuan in the construction of park infrastructure. This year, the county has allocated 240 million yuan in funding to support the development of the park, and is fully committed to building a national demonstration zone for the salt chemical circular economy industry.
Yunmeng has abundant mineral resources, especially rock salt, saltpeter, and gypsum, which are the “Three Treasures of Yunmeng”. Among them, rock salt reserves are 10.7 billion tons, gypsum reserves are 70 million tons, and calcium saltpeter reserves are 60 million tons.
